Vyšehrad

A record-breakingly rapidly-cooked cult film. At one time, it was impossible to have anything to do with the ballgame without references to Lavi starting to pop up, only for it to come to a halt just as quickly a few months later and Vyšehrad turned into a dirty, ugly monstrosity instead of a classic. I cannot understand how, out of four brisk episodes that managed to ding every winged football cliché of recent years, or even decades, through Jakub Štáfek's unmeditated mouth on the first try, I could end up getting so much pure garbage in the remaining ones, which leave me feeling completely embarrassed by the entire acting and creative ensemble. The series got off to a good start, but episodes 5 through 8 took a strange turn. The quality humor was gone, and to be honest, I don't think I would have kept watching it if the episodes had been any longer. The last two episodes were a bit better but didn't live up to the quality of the first four episodes. Criticism of the conditions in Czech football is definitely in place - that’s what I liked most about the series. Unfortunately, it soon started to fade away, was replaced by fecal humor, and the show stopped being funny. (2018.02.03)
