Bad Boys - Mire jók a rosszfiúk? (1995)

angol There's nothing like reminiscing nostalgically and having some fun at the same time. For example, I watched the DVD of Bad Boys today after many years... It's an incredible hit - these guys haven't lost any of their charm in 15 years! If it weren't for the fact that cell phones somehow don't exist in the film yet, you'd think Bay only made it last year. Four and a half stars (and tonight I'll get to the second film, which has - ahem - eluded me so far).__P.S. I love the soundtrack (score) and could listen to it all the time.

Hajrá Bliss! (2009)

angol Great relaxing entertainment that literally whizzes by on fast skates. Whip It is a film full of likable actors (Ellen Page, Kristen Wiig, the family...), it has a cozy atmosphere and soundtrack, and it is also very well directed. Hats off to Drew Barrymore - she handled the track scenes especially well. I give it four and a bit stars.__P.S. Were you also wondering where you saw "that guy playing Bliss's dad"? I didn't recognize him until the end - but I did, which is the main thing!

Max Payne - Egyszemélyes háború (2008)

angol I liked it. The game Max Payne is one of the few things I've actually played to the end, and the movie doesn't do it any shame. I was a little worried about Wahlberg in the lead role, but unnecessarily so. Then I thought to myself that the atmosphere couldn't have been as I remembered - it wasn't, but it was as close to it as it could be. I was expecting more shootouts, but there's nothing I can do about that... I can be glad that the filmmakers at least weren't afraid to show blood (i.e., when someone shoots someone, they don't get dusty, but instead a spectacular red cloud comes out of them) and that the screenwriter got a good idea with the Valkyries, which didn't hurt the atmosphere either. In addition, there are pretty women (although Kurylenko's bark could have been played by anyone else), quite good music and direction, which is not bad at all during the action and outside it. Three and a half.

Amikor megállt a Föld (2008)

angol An average sci-fi film with an idea and a message, but not everyone is necessarily going to be in the mood for it. Keanu Reeves impressed me the most in the film - he plays the alien in such a way that he really looks perfectly "out of it" most of the time - and I was also looking forward to John Cleese. Even though I knew his role wouldn't be the biggest... I wasn't expecting such a bark :-/ The good thing about this film is the quality visual effects, the bad thing is definitely the annoying stepson and after him the sometimes boring plot. Basically, three stars.

Csillagkapu (1997) (sorozat)

angol Oh, I don't have Stargate SG-1 rated? The show that rode the wave of popularity of one of Emmerich's best films? That thing that was so awkward at times it was almost impossible to finish an episode? The TV episode that's lucky to have R.D. in it? Anderson (who isn’t anywhere near as good as K.R.) and that a few episodes were interesting? All right, all right, two stars then... But I'll probably never understand the fact that Stargate has become almost as much of a cult as Star Trek or Star Wars.

Vörös törpe - Back to Earth (2009) (évad)

angol Old friends return with a new helping of space fun. They've toned down the bang, added a few more wrinkles (I'm actually quite surprised they haven't killed themselves in the cabin in that time), have better visual effects (but still retain that beautifully naive childlike B-ness), and the audience laughter is no longer there. The biggest downside to this trilogy is that it's just a trilogy and not a straight up series. I'm sure the boys would be up for it. The episodes show that they are moving with the times (CSI parodies, making fun of DVDs), the jokes are a bit more accessible to all viewers (not just RD fans), but they still have the usual energy (the Blade Runner quote in the third part is a treat)... It's a lot, but it could have been more. I want a movie! I want a movie! I want a movie!

Máj (2008) Boo!

angol One hour and ten minutes of boredom = seventy minutes of Brabec's visual masturbation, which he was obviously so enthralled by that he simply ignored everything else. We can't even thank the presence of the (otherwise) good actors Tříska, Javorský or Přeučil - they couldn't save this dumbed-down flick with anything (and I have a strong impression that they didn't even try). As for the main roles - Stropnický's "The Ridiculous Lord of the Woods" is an unprecedentedly slimy and disgusting appearance in Czech cinema, Lehnertová's Jarmila is again shown as a first-class... hmmm... prostitute (slut is a strong word, you understand) and Kukura's Schifner - a waste of words, vowels and consonants. The culmination of this work was the music of the band Support Lesbiens - an outrageously disturbing pseudo-rock accompaniment and an overwrought final song, one should also remember the bandits who have been smoking "quality stuff" since they were probably two years old. All these remarkable things confirm that Wild Flowers was a bright exception, and every other Brabec film is to be feared. Seriously.

A gátrobbantók (1955)

angol Yes, the final half hour is riveting, but what happens before it is no less interesting. The Dam Busters surprised me very pleasantly and immediately became one of my top air war films. And that doesn't change despite the fact that the actors spend three quarters of the film just talking, planning, testing, modifying and talking... This (and the fact that the film is not boring at all) are the things that made Dam Busters different and remarkable.

Farkasok birodalma (2005)

angol Empire of the Wolves - a film with a good idea, good actors, good atmosphere... And a film with a crappy script. The first hour was fine, there was always something going on and I was curious how the two stories were connected: The search for a young cop-sympathizer who has enlisted the help of a dashing retired maniac Jean Reno, and the part with Anna, who feels that not everything in her life is as it seems. The stories intersected and I thought - OK, still good. Then came one twist (let's call it that), another (unnecessary), a third (even more unnecessary)... And a great scene on the spiral iron staircase, after which I think Empire of the Wolves should (and could) have ended. It didn't happen, and the writers decided to invite me on a trip to Istanbul, where the full finale takes place - it's spectacular and the desert shots are nice to look at, but it seems to have come from a completely different film. In the end, I give the Wolves a clean three stars, or slightly above average. The Crimson Rivers it is not, but fortunately it is not soulless crap either.
