A fiúk a bandából

I watched the original and already half-century(!) old film when I was seventeen, and I remember that I found it very strong and bold for its time, but also very talky, drawn out and unfinished in a sense. The Netflix remake sticks pretty closely to the original, but has the disadvantage that nowadays a film like this can't shock anyone anymore. Acting-wise, it's handled very well, though I had a problem with some of the characters - which I'm sure was the primary intention. It's almost frightening how toxic and dangerous some friendships can be. P.S. Jim Parsons portrayed two "royally mean 4% scumbags" this year (see Hollywood). (2020.10.31)

The Boys in the Band pulled me in mostly because of Jim Parsons and the fact that it's based on a play. Usually, with stage adaptations, it's all about the dialogue—if the conversations are sharp, you're golden. But here? The dialogue just didn’t do it for me. Not even close. And honestly, that's where I'll leave it. Jim Parsons will always be Sheldon to me, where his quirky madness works. But his over-the-top delivery in a serious drama? No thanks. I'd rather take a dart to the back. (2021.01.14)
