Legiony

Somewhat disappointing. The film was based on events I knew nothing about, and it could have been a great experience if the filmmakers hadn't made it so melodramatic and overly heroic, and if they hadn't grafted a love story onto the plot, stretching out the running time to four hours. The way the subject was handled doesn’t hold a candle to De Oost. Shame about the wasted potential. (2021.10.07)

The Poles returned here in terms of filmmaking and shot what an American would not be afraid to shoot at the turn of the millennium. A magnificent historical period film, rich in mass war scenes from the trenches of World War I, but also playing with characters, adding a little (actually a lot) of pathos and wrapping it in a romantic wave, so that even grandma finds herself in it. I enjoyed it. It was magnificent, it was multinational, it was epic. And who in Europe today can pull off something similar? I have a feeling that maybe only the Poles. They can do everything.
