What’s the first thing that comes to mind about this film? It was long—like really long. 162 minutes of watching a guy who couldn’t keep his mouth shut, slowly evolving on screen, is a lot for anyone. But apparently, the story is based on a book that’s required reading in Denmark, so I get why they wanted to pour their hearts into the adaptation. It definitely had its moments, and for those, it’s worth sticking through almost three hours. If I had to sum it up, I'd call it an epic family drama set against the backdrop of Danish life.
