Sötétség (2017)

angol Such an ambitious project is something I really didn’t expect from the Germans. They decided to tackle the theme of time travel, which at first glance might seem like a topic that’s been endlessly explored in cinema, but they managed a small miracle... They made it so engaging that it hooked me right from the start. I don’t quite understand the comparisons to Stranger Things; as the title suggests, the series Dark focuses on a darker approach, dense atmosphere, and grounded performances that often leave you saying: WOW... Don’t expect any comedic elements here; you’ll need to look elsewhere for that. I could go on for pages about the cast, as there are so many superlatives that could fill a good amount of text... but I won’t... I just have to praise those responsible for the casting, as they did an incredible job (the blending of the timelines of 1953, 1986, and 2019 brought the challenge of casting younger and older versions of characters, and they managed it superbly... hats off). Throughout all ten episodes, I was presented with many questions as a viewer, and not all of them were answered. Because of that, I can’t give it a full score. However, I’m almost certain that these remaining narrative questions will be addressed in the second season, which I have high hopes for based on my experience with the first. 83%. ()

Season 2 (2019) (S02)

angol I must admit that I'm gradually falling in love with this perfectly executed concept of various time loops. Sure... I expected to get more answers to previous questions in the second season, but Dark is one of the few cinematic works where this flaw doesn’t really bother me in the end. Let me explain why. Dark relies so heavily on the precise performances of all the involved characters and a breathtaking atmosphere that engulfs you and never lets go. So, even with these aspects, I can forgive the fact that sometimes every advance in the story and every action of the main characters isn't fully explained... Moreover, I have to commend the series for the audiovisual side of things. Nothing that Dark throws at you throughout its runtime feels cheap; you can see the money and, more importantly, the talent of the team that gave the series its now indispensable face. I enjoyed the twists because they didn’t feel superficial; most of the time, I could only react with amazement because they almost always shook up the already running plot. And the final episode capped it all off; such a plot twist delivered in one sentence raised my anticipation for the third season very high. Hopefully, it won’t be delayed, and we’ll see it in June of this year. The Germans simply outdo themselves. For me, the second season gets 88%. ()
