Twelve-year-old Tui Mitcham, daughter of the local drug lord, is pulled from the freezing waters of an alpine lake in New Zealand. She is discovered to be pregnant and won’t say who the father is. Then she disappears. Robin Griffin is the straight-talking detective experienced in child protection who is called in to investigate. But as Robin becomes more and more obsessed with the search for Tui, she begins to realise that finding the girl is tantamount to finding herself - a self she has kept well-hidden. angol Demanding....damn demanding. I thought that in the Lord of the Rings era, only really cool people lived in New Zealand, who had merged with nature, and on the other hand, it's incredibly feminist. I'm actually surprised overall that there is some guy in this series who is normal, at least a little bit. Most of them are quite out of touch, and damn it was difficult for me to even bear those characters. A crime show can be the best crime show, but when it shows you that there are more psychopaths than normal people living in that area, something is wrong. I would still be able to say that this series is an interesting phenomenon. Moreover, I'm curious to see what the second series will bring. There, I assume, they will shoot Australia. It certainly deserves it more. ()

angol I've known about this show for years. Lucy Lawless guest stars, which is indeed an event because she was probably the last New Zealand star who didn't work with Jane Campion. And everyone loves The Piano (that is also why Holly Hunter is in it). So what is Top of the Lake all about? A cold, slow and very cruel crime drama. Lucy's role is not important and Stephen Lovatt is equally irrelevant. However, if you're suffering from latent depression, the mood in Top of the Lake could be a bit of a catharsis. ()
