Mary Griffith (Sigourney Weaver) odaadó keresztényként a presbiteriánus egyház konzervatív tanításai szerint neveli gyermekeit, de mikor kisebbik fiáról, Bobbyról (Ryan Kelley) kiderül, hogy meleg, a család élete egyik pillanatról a másikra gyökeresen megváltozik. Míg Bobby apja és testvérei kezdenek megbarátkozni a fiú homoszexualitásával, Mary meg van róla győződve, hogy Isten ki tudja gyógyítani Bobbyt ebből a "betegségből", ezért aztán arra ösztökéli fiát, hogy még odaadóbban imádkozzon és vegyen részt minden templomi tevékenységen, hátha attól megváltozik. Bobby bármire hajlandó lenne azért, hogy anyja elfogadja őt, ám az egyház megtagadja magától a homoszexualitást, így Mary is, ennek hatására pedig a fiú egyre mélyebbre merül a depresszióba, míg tragikus elhatározásra nem jut. For me, one of the most compelling and powerful films dealing with gay issues. I have to say at the outset that you can tell right away that this is a TV movie, but that's not a bad thing at all, it's even the ideal format for such dramas. From start to finish, the film is full of emotion and reflection, and all the elements play to the film's strengths, from the technical aspects (the cinematography, the cuts between the two time periods, and the music) to the strong script to the convincing performances; Sigourney Weaver once again proves that she is a great actress. A film that, despite its small budget, is perfect in virtually every way. It highlights how some among us cannot cope with the difference that is ingrained in human nature. I applaud and give it both thumbs up!
