(HBO Europe)

angol ... this makes Season 5 look great, like a brand-new series. Rita and her children are gone, leaving only the lone wolf and his disturbed immediate family. Julia Stiles could at least be half as interesting as Jaime... And hello, Katherine Moennig. And yes, Julia Stiles is ultimately one of the highlights of the entire series. But is it possible that the series has been trying to find itself for four whole seasons only for the fifth to be the fateful one? ()

angol The opening episode was a disappointment, because it was too melodramatic, which is not what I watch Dexter for. The fifth episode, in turn, brought a lot of unnecessary material and was only there to stretch out the story. But what struck me most was Dexter's occasional emotional outpour, which he wasn’t supposed to have at all. But I had fun for the most part, the story was strong enough and Julia Stiles didn't get on my nerves as much as the (anti)hero’s dead wife. ()

angol I was pleased that the fifth season picks up exactly where the previous one left off. I admit there’s been a slight dip in quality, but I can’t really fault the creators, as John Lithgow shone as the antagonist, and I can’t imagine anyone surpassing him in this role in the future. The new storyline involving Lumen and the gang of twisted perverts really hooked me; I thoroughly enjoyed how they later teamed up and took on the antagonists as a two-person team. The rest of the classic cast also delivered stellar performances, and Peter Weller’s (a.k.a. RoboCop) reduced presence paid off well; his character stirred the otherwise calm waters of the fifth season. One of the best moments that had me on the edge of my seat was when Debb speaks in the final episode to the duo of Lumen and Dexter, unaware of their true identities. That scene had me up off my seat! 8/10 ()
