It's purely coincidental that Cormac McCarthy's latest novel bears the same title, but I found him here. His nihilism, conflict with society, the burden carried, and the exploration of fate being in one's own hands until someone else blows them away with a shotgun—there's no such thing as a life without bloodshed, only cause and effect. The outsider Johnny Berchtold and his unstable mental coach Kyle Gallner carry it exceptionally well. The genre label of horror is entirely misplaced here, and eager reviewers end up rating something they might have been better off avoiding.
