The plot, based on an ancient legend, concerns the son of a renowned Kabuki actor. When the son falls in love with a servant girl, his father violently opposes the union. A strong dramatic story that may currently suffer from a very slow pace of storytelling, heavy incorporation of Japanese theater which may not resonate with today's audience, and the fact that the story doesn't appear particularly innovative. However, the Japanese style is more apparent in the poeticism of the film rather than anything else.
