In the year 2022, the vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson) seeks to tell the story of his life, or afterlife, to renowned journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian). Beginning in early 20th century New Orleans, Louis' story follows his relationship with the vampire Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid) and their formed family, including teen fledgling Claudia (Bailey Bass). Together, the vampire family endures immortality, in New Orleans and beyond. (Acorn Media UK)

Interview with the Vampire (2022)

angol It took almost three decades for the famous saga by Anne Rice to receive a dignified television adaptation. Her "Vampire Chronicles" (and Mayfair Witches) had a total of 18 books. Talk of a sequel to the film Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles had been circulating non-stop since 1994. It is therefore very gratifying that together with her son Christopher, Anne witnessed the beginning of production of several concurrently developing series and approved the scripts, etc. Although she did not live to see their premieres, as she passed away at the end of last year, her work continues to be nurtured by Christopher, who had already established himself as her successor during her lifetime. Together with his mother, he co-wrote, for example, the second and third parts of the novel "The Mummy, or Ramses the Damned." So, what is the beginning of the television series Interview with the Vampire like? It's quite pleasant. There were indeed many changes, but none of them contradictory to the essence of the material. Season 1 (2022) (S01)

angol We live in a time of diversity. Ethnic actors have more opportunities and with them comes new inspiration. It is no longer important to start the story in 1791 on plantations, but we can move Louis's vampire birth to 1910. Now Louis is a shepherd looking for his place in the sun and trying to defend his role in the family and the underworld... New Orleans remains. Meeting other vampires in 19th century Paris replaces Claudia's solitary experience fleeing from her creator. Emotions are strong, and there is no reason to resist them. Just enjoy it. Jacob Anderson, Sam Reid, and Bailey Bass are fascinating as a new vampire family. I have been waiting for this for a long time and it was worth it. I welcome the idea of retelling events from the first film adaptation. Not only that, but I hope for the entire TV series universe. ()

In Throes of Increasing Wonder (2022) (S01E01)

angol It took less than three decades for Anne Rice's famous saga to receive a worthy series adaptation. Her "The Vampire Chronicles" (and "The Mayfair Witches") have gone on to have 18 books in total. There has been nonstop speculation about a sequel to Interview with the Vampire since 1994. I am thus greatly satisfied that Anne, together with her son Christopher, has seen the start of production of several concurrent series and that she has approved the scripts, etc. Although she did not live to see the premiere - she died at the end of last year - her work continues to be nurtured by Christopher, who had already established himself as her successor during her lifetime. Together with his mother he wrote, for example, the second and third parts of "The Mummy," or "Ramses the Damned." So how is the beginning of the "Interview with the Vampire" series? Very pleasant. Yes, there are a lot of changes, but not against the sense of the substance. Louis's vampire birth was moved to 1910 from 1791. This time he is not the plantation owner, who is mourning the loss of his wife, and he attracts Lestat with his noisy suicide attempts. On the contrary, Louis is a pimp, seeking his place in the sun and trying to defend his role in the family and in the underworld... Jacob Anderson and Sam Reid are incredible, malleable, and sexy, so I'll definitely indulge in all the films at least once. ()

Season 2 (2024) (S02)

angol I’m excited about all the updates surrounding the Immortal Universe. It’s, of course, a complex process with grand plans, which is fine because Anne Rice built her world of vampires and witches from the 1970s, infusing it with her deepest experiences. This includes her youthful encounter with the lesbian film Dracula's Daughter and her own personal tragedy, where she witnessed the death of her five-year-old daughter from leukemia. These and many other experiences shaped not only Anne Rice's personality but also her work. She was the one who moved the vampire genre to New Orleans and played with homoerotic relationships among her vampires for years. She also had to watch numerous adaptations of her seminal novel "Interview with the Vampire" (1976). In addition to the classic film, there were musicals and many drafts intended to become additional films and the first series starring Lestat. However, the first series is only being made now. For the first time, Anne, her son Christopher (who became her successor), and the fans are satisfied. And no one wants to address the originally chosen real-life settings (the book’s Louis de Pointe du Lac was a plantation owner with slaves), nor is anyone up to handling Claudia as a real child (the book character was a faithful reflection of Anne Rice’s five-year-old daughter, a wishful thinking for her to live on - perhaps as a vampire); indeed, eleven-year-old Kirsten Dunst in the first film was also a compromise, so it’s understandable that the series creators have gone further and portrayed her as fourteen (Bailey Bass was replaced by Delainey Hayles in the second season). Personally, I’m not thrilled about moving the entire story to the 20th century, but there will always be opportunities to depict the distant past within the storytelling of other characters. At least, I hope so. In the film, Neil Jordan's team primarily shortened the events covered in this series, which explains the decision to remake the entire book in two seasons. Everything that happened in Paris fundamentally defined the events of the next 17 books in the series. So, I’m very pleased with the time spent with the Théâtre des Vampires, even though it is now set in the post-war period. The new aspect includes how to incorporate the new technologies of that time into the decadent theatrical plays. There’s also a new story for Claudia’s partner Madeleine, who is reimagined from the original book’s doll-maker (who sees Claudia as a replacement child) into a Jewish seamstress who builds a relationship with Claudia in a slightly different context. Another new element is the expanded story of Daniel Molloy, whose first interview with Louis is set back to the 70s, the time when the first book was first published. There’s also a depiction of the Talamasca processes, which first appeared in Queen of the Damned. This addresses the most glaring differences between the books and the first films. We have much to look forward to, and it will be grand. Sam Reid and Jacob Anderson are incredibly energetic, bringing empathy and passion to their roles, and it’s a joy to watch their interpretation of such a complex relationship.
