Yellowjackets

The first two episodes hooked me and lured me into expecting great things, but over time that impression went way down due to how much they stretch things. The line with survival in the wilderness does hint at interesting things happening in the present, which is given more space, but it feels increasingly lost, where the first really interesting thing happens only in the last seconds of the last episode. That said, Christina Ricci deserves the highest praise; her psychopathic, angelic Misty is the clear driving force of the series. At the end of the season, I'm still interested to see how the girls in the woods will do with their cannibalistic games, but I'll probably watch the second season based on feedback. (2022.01.20)

A very unexpected ending to the series, but not in a good way for me this time. I was expecting a cannibalistic horror survival on an island and instead I got an adult drama that only kicks into gear in the last episode. The scenes on the island make up about 1/5th of the series and few of them are noteworthy, the cannibalism hardly occurs at all and neither does any action. While it's nice that the series reveals some of the cards towards the end, it's too late and not enough to satisfy me. The line from the present (or future) isn't very interesting, and the similarly neglected line from the island doesn't offer much; the ending tries to skate a bit into the themes of the island's curse, the supernatural, and quite entice the next series, but for a running time of 10 hours, the series has offered drastically little so far, and the whole story could be summed up in a few sentences. Mixed feelings prevail over satisfaction and although I wasn't downright bored and it's enough for three stars, I was expecting a diametrically different, more brutal, grittier and most importantly more interesting outcome.
